Easy Chai Latte Recipe

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Equipment

  • Small pot
  • Frother

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 black tea bags or 2 teaspoons loose black tea
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 whole cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 3-4 whole cloves
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger
  • 1 table sugar or 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup optional, to taste
  • 1-1/2 cups milk or your favorite plant-based milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • Ground cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and fresh ginger. Let the spices simmer for 5 minutes to release their flavors.
  • Add the tea bags to the simmering spiced water and steep for another 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
  • Remove the tea bags and spices, then stir in honey or maple syrup if you want your chai latte on the sweeter side.
  • In a separate small pot or microwave, gently heat the milk. You can whisk it vigorously or use a milk frother if you want a frothy latte.
  • Pour the brewed chai tea into your favorite mug, then top it off with the warmed milk. Stir in the vanilla extract for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Garnish and enjoy: Sprinkle a little ground cinnamon or nutmeg on top for a final touch and flavor.
